Benefits of Sulfate Free Shampoo
Have you heard of them? A couple of months ago…I was thinking about using a chemical relaxer on my hair. I have thick hair that is somewhere in between wavy and curly. I also have a frizz issue. I had heard that using a product like Liquid Keratin would smooth the frizz.
Well, I decided to do a little more reserch. One reason was because of the cost–I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend that kind of money on something I wasn’t sure was going to work on my hair. Another reason was that I really did not want to add more chemicals to my hair.
I found information on using sulfate-free shampoo. So, I decided to give it a try. I figured that was much less expensive then the alternative. I choose to go with Samy Pure…no particular reason…other than the fact that it was on sale. My findings were pretty dramatic. It tamed the frizziness quite a bit. It leaves my hair feeling soft after just shampooing.
So, what you are looking for is a shampoo that does not have sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate, also known as SLS and SLES. This chemical is a surfactant. Which essential means it is a detergent. This makes lots of lather, which most people love. But, it can also irritate your scalp, strip color from your hair, cause split ends, strip your hair of moisture, and even cause hair loss.
There are a handful of brands out on the market…but, you will have to look for them. I mentioned the Samy Pure line, Loreal has one, there is Vitamin one, and a few others. these are all brands that you can find at your local drug store chain.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you, Jenn
