Are All Candle Waxes Created Equal?

Are all candle waxes created equal?  No, they are not.  Most store bought candles are made from low grade paraffin wax.  Even higher priced brands are still made from paraffin.  It is considered a higher grade, one that has been more refined.  Still, paraffin is a petroleum by-product.  so, even if it has been highly refined, it still gives off a lot of soot.  As far as I am concerned, no matter how good a candle smells…if I have to deal with having soot everywhere…it’s just not worth it.

Some companies have chosen to go to a more natural wax source.  One of these sources that is very popular is soy wax.  Soy burns cleaner than paraffin does.  But, the problem with soy is that the fragrance tends to fall out.  In other words, over time…the sent tends to fade away.  It may smell fine when you buy it…but if you keep it around for very long, the scent seems to go away.  Leaving you with a burning candle that has very little scent.

Another choice for candle wax is beeswax.  this a wonderful wax to utilize.  It is natural and burns well.  However, bees are dramatically disappearing and bee hives are dying off at alarming rates for unknown reasons.  There are currently studies being done to find out what is causing this to happen.  So, why help contribute to an already dire situation?

I bring all of this up because the candles that I sell, do not use any of these waxes.  The wax used to make Mia Bella Candles is a proprietary blend of natural vegetable waxes.  This wax blend offers the best of all worlds.  Because it is made from natural vegetable waxes, it burns very clean, with virtually no soot.  This means cleaner air.  We have actually had many allergy and asthma sufferers say that these candles do not bother them, like others do.  This wax blend has also shown to hold scent very well.  The candles smell the same at the bottom of the jar as it does when you first burn it.  If you are one that only burns your candles occasionally, you can count on your candle smelling great for a long time to come.

Mia bella did used to utilize soy in there candles.  But when they discovered that the fragrance would dissipate over time, they chose to remove it from the candle.  They also used to utilize beeswax in their blend, until they discovered the issues plaguing the bees, they chose to remove it from the formula.  Mia Bella is very proactive to things going on in the candle insdustry and the environment.  They work tirelessly to provide a top of the line product that everyone can feel good about using.

I highly recommend that you check and see what type of wax is being utilized in the candles that you currently burn.  As you can see by what I have mentioned above.  It can make a difference.  So, what do you think?  Are all candle waxes created equal?  Offer your comments below.
